Close Circuit Television, commonly known as CCTV is the placement of two or more Cameras, connected to a Digital Video Recorder(DVR) and a storage Device.
CCTVs are necessary in Schools, Hotels, Offices, Churches and in many other places that needs a beef up on Security. CCTV beefs up Security in the sense that it keeps a watchful eye on the environment where it covers. The occurrences seen by the CCTV Camera are saved in the memory module affixed in the DVR.
CCTV helps you reduce Burglar or Theft in your vicinity, since a lot of them look out for one before attempting their bad act. It also gives you an edge, providing you with evidence if you have to follow up with a committed crime or better still provide the Police with evidence.
CCTV Cameras nowadays are easy to install, since most of them are made in such a way that their Connection Ports and Cable Connectors are provided or bought to ease installation.
The vital places to be put into consideration, when installing CCTVs are:
• The front, side and back entrances.
• Ground Floor
• Garages and detached Buildings
• Second Floor
• Back Yard
The process of installation of CCTV Cameras are:
- Locate where the Cameras will be placed
- Drill a hole where the Camera will be placed (having the diameter of Screws to be used in mind)
- Insert Pegs into the drilled holes and fasten the Camera to the wall (Note that if the Cameras are the Cable enabled type, then a hole has to be made wide enough for the Cable to pass through the Wall, to the Spot where the DVR is located, so as to connect to the DVR)
- Place the DVR in a Safe Spot where your visual data is protected
- Plan the Cable pathway to the DVR (IP Cameras use a CAT 5 or CAT 6 Cable while HD Cameras use BNC Cables and a DC Pin Connector.
- Connect each Camera to the DVR/NVR (Network Video Recorder)
- When all these have been connected, power On and see the blind spots of the Camera, then adjust them.
- If one is not well grounded on Cables, it is advised that Wireless Cameras should be used. These Cameras do not need Cables but adapter Cards to run. The Cameras just have to be within the hub’s range.
- To get the best from your CCTV installation,
- The Cameras should be 8 – 10 feet above the ground
- The movement of the Sun throughout the Day should be considered, so the reflection of the Sun will not be directed to the Camera at any point in time.
- Invest in weatherproof Cameras, so it will last long, even though it faces harsh weather conditions.
- Augment the Cameras with lightings, so as to get a clearer vision of the images captured.
- Keep Indoor Cameras away from the Window, to avoid reflections on the Images captured.
